New Allergy Makes People Allergic To Meat

Think twice about gardening or playing in your backyard in the Southeast -- if you don't have something to rid your yard of ticks.

New Disease from tick bites spreads -- called alpha-gal and doctors say the number of cases are surging.

Lone Star ticks in the southeast spread alpha-gal, a tick-borne allergy that makes people allergic to four-legged mammal meat, like beef or pork.

"Just a little bit of bacon in a salad can set you off and it's pretty scary,"

The situation is not only scary but potentially deadly.

Roughly 20 percent of the population in Central Virginia already test positive to alpha-gal.

Once infected it could take days or weeks to develop but it sets off the allergic reaction after eating meat again.
